Healthy, Low Toxic Homes
Since Americans spend about 90% of their time indoors, the air quality inside our homes and offices can greatly impact our health. The quality of indoor air can be up to five times worse than it is outside. zHome will offer high indoor air quality through proper ventilation and the use of low-toxicity materials.
90%
of their time indoors
No wall-to-wall carpet
Wall-to-wall carpeting is like an air filter you never replace — even if you vacuum, it holds dust, dirt and other tracked-in toxic substances. zHome units will use only easy-to-clean solid flooring.
Sealed garages with ventilation screens
Cars are a major source of toxins from exhaust, gas and lubricants, as well as off-gassing. Sealing the garage well from the living space and allowing air flow through the garage helps reduce these toxins from intruding in the living space.
Zero urea formaldehyde interiors
Urea formaldehyde is a toxic adhesive used in construction materials such as particleboard. It can create respiratory issues and may cause cancer. zHome interiors are free of added urea formaldehyde products and materials.
Heat recovery ventilator
A tight building shell requires good ventilation. The heat recovery ventilator system in zHome units uses an interwoven honeycomb that allows cold air coming into the house to be heated by the warm air that is exhausted.
Low toxicity adhesives, finishes, caulks, paints and sealants
These materials off-gas dangerous chemicals into the air, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause significant respiratory and nervous system problems. zHome uses low toxic options to minimize these impacts.
