Project Timeline
Events & Classes related to zHome will be ongoing.
zHome will break ground September 29, 2008 with a celebratory event at the building site. Representatives from state and local government will help kick-off the construction phase, and the people behind the project will demonstrate some of the homes' technologies, systems and materials, via full-scale mock-up displays.
During zHome construction, 90 percent of all construction related debris will be diverted through waste prevention, reuse and recycling. Howland Homes will also employ practices and purchase offsets in order for the project to be carbon neutral from start to finish.
Upon completion in 2009, there will be a three-month open house period, whereby the public can tour zHome. Nine of the homes will be sold, and one will be donated by Howland Homes to a nonprofit organization that will use this as a demonstration home to educate the public on green design and building practices.
